TL;DR: Like Intercom, Front is retooling around AI, going after both full AI deflection a la Sierra & Decagon as well as AI-assisted human-in-the-loop workflows. We first covered Front in December 2020 as the company hit ~$39M ARR growing 51% year-over-year on a $1.3B valuation, positioning itself as the "multiplayer" layer for email looking to unbundle the inbox to challenge Zendesk and Salesforce.
After founder Mathilde Collin transitioned from CEO to Executive Chair in May 2024, new CEO Dan O'Connell (ex-Dialpad Chief AI & Strategy Officer, ex-TalkIQ CEO) turned over the executive team over 18 months and refocused Front on an aggressive enterprise GTM.
Key points from our 2025 update:
- Customer support was ground zero for AI disruption in 2024-2025 between AI-native customer support startups like Sierra (Sacra-estimated $104M ARR in November 2025, up ~333% YoY) & Decagon (~$17M ARR in April 2025, up from $6M ARR end of 2024) and Intercom’s ($343M revenue in 2024, up 25% YoY) shift to AI-first automation with flat or declining support headcount across the industry pressuring seat-based expansion revenue and net dollar retention for legacy platforms, last cited for Front as top-decile at 137%.
- Sacra estimates Front hit $100M in annual recurring revenue (ARR) in September 2025, up from ~$85M at the end of 2024 growing 16% YoY, decelerating from ~$39M ARR and 43% YoY growth when we first covered the company in December 2020, with its $1.7B valuation as of its June 2022 Series D now implying a ~17x ARR multiple, down from ~35x at the time of the raise.
- Building both for full AI deflection (Front Autopilot) and for AI-assisted human-in-the-loop workflows (Front Copilot), Front’s vision hinges on using collaboration around email as a wedge to expand across the entire GTM organization, with the shared inbox becoming the unified platform where sales, marketing, account management, and customer success teams work from a single conversation history with AI-assisted workflows layered on top.
