Rokt is turning a single checkout widget into a broader commerce operating layer. The initial sale is easy for a large merchant to justify, because it plugs into checkout and starts producing incremental profit from offers, loyalty prompts, and cross sells. Once that integration is live, Rokt can attach higher value products that use the same transaction data, including ad demand, customer data plumbing through mParticle, and third party catalog expansion through Canal.

  • The landing product is concrete. Ticketmaster style customers install Rokt in checkout, then use it to show context specific add ons like parking or dining. Rokt generally keeps 50% of advertiser spend, which makes the first use case performance linked rather than a big upfront software commitment.
  • The expansion path moves from monetizing a single page to owning more of the data and inventory behind that page. mParticle adds recurring CDP revenue and lets a merchant collect events from its storefront and tools, build live customer profiles, and send those audiences into email, app, and personalization systems.
  • Canal pushes the model one step further, toward marketplace economics. Instead of only showing sponsored offers, Rokt can now let merchants surface third party products from a network of 1,900 brands without holding inventory. That looks closer to Mirakl style marketplace expansion, where software opens a new take rate stream on outside seller demand.

The direction of travel is clear. Rokt is moving from checkout monetization into a system that helps merchants decide what offer, message, audience, and outside product should appear at the transaction moment. If execution continues, the company captures a larger share of commerce budgets and becomes harder to replace than a point solution tied only to ads.
