This points to Workato becoming infrastructure inside other SaaS products, not just a tool those companies buy for their own ops. The important shift is from selling automation seats to selling an integration engine that software vendors can package for their own customers. Workato already has the raw pieces for that move, including embedded APIs, customer workspaces, private integration libraries, and deployment tooling, so the expansion is more packaging and go to market than net new core technology.

The product workflow already looks like an embedded platform. Workato lets partners create and manage customer tenants, recipes, and connections through Embedded Partner APIs, gives those customers isolated dev, test, and prod environments, and supports full page or widget level embedding inside a SaaS product UI.

Dedicated embedded vendors show what the commercial model can look like. Paragon sells subscriptions that expand with number of integrations and request volume, with typical contracts around $30,000 to $40,000 and some six figure deals. That is a different revenue motion from classic internal automation, and it maps well to Workato's existing connector and workflow engine base.

The key competitive split is between workflow breadth and product simplicity. Merge wins when a SaaS company wants one normalized API for narrow read and write use cases across categories. Embedded iPaaS vendors win when end users need configurable logic, authentication handling, mapping, and white labeled UX. Workato is better positioned for the second case because its core engine already handles complex workflows.
Going forward, the likely path is for Workato to deepen from embedded automation tooling into a more opinionated OEM platform for software vendors. If it keeps wrapping its general iPaaS engine in cleaner developer workflows and productized distribution tools, it can move from competing deal by deal for enterprise automation budgets to becoming the default integration layer that many SaaS products quietly run on.
