This is the core fragility in Stan’s growth model, its customer acquisition happens on platforms that can decide they want the checkout themselves. Stan works by turning a creator’s one bio link into a lightweight store where fans can buy a $4 PDF, book a call, or join a course, so if TikTok suppresses that outbound path, Stan loses both traffic and the viral loop where creators discover Stan by tapping other creators’ Stan links.

  • Stan was built on TikTok first. At launch, about 90% of its customers were TikTok creators, and later it shifted distribution toward Instagram. By March 2024, TikTok’s share of GMV had fallen to 7% from 47% in mid 2023, which shows real progress, but also shows how much growth has historically depended on social platform rules.
  • This is not a theoretical risk for the category. Beacons highlighted that TikTok mistakenly flagged Linktree and Beacons bio links as dangerous in January 2020. Stan also benefits from categories other platforms may not want to host directly, like adult adjacent services, which helps growth now but makes policy sensitivity even higher.
  • The strategic issue is that link in bio tools sit between discovery and purchase. Platforms like TikTok own the audience and increasingly want to own shopping too. Stan monetizes better than Linktree because it is closer to checkout, with roughly $482 ARPC versus Linktree at about $144, but that also makes it more likely to look competitive to a platform moving into native commerce.

The next phase is a race to make Stan less like a traffic parasite and more like creator infrastructure that survives across platforms. The more creators use Stan for email capture, digital delivery, scheduling, and repeat customer relationships, the less any single platform can choke off the business with one policy change.
