The key move is that Copy.ai is trying to graduate from selling generated words to selling automated work. In practice, that means turning scattered company knowledge, CRM records, websites, earnings calls, transcripts, and internal rules into repeatable workflows that research accounts, draft outreach, enrich records, and push outputs into systems like Salesforce or HubSpot. That is what makes a digital twin valuable, it acts less like a writing tool and more like an always on GTM operator.

  • The margin logic follows from this shift. Early AI writing tools could resell model output at about 60% gross margins, but per word pricing misses the point because the valuable unit is not text volume, it is finished business work, like a qualified account brief or a ready to send outbound sequence.
  • The product changed because simple copy generation got commoditized after ChatGPT launched in November 2022. Copy.ai moved upmarket into enterprise workflows, where the product can show hard ROI by shrinking weeks of account research or content production into a mostly automated pipeline with a human checking the final output.
  • Compared with Jasper, which leaned harder into marketing copilot use cases, Copy.ai pushed toward a broader go to market workflow layer. The defensibility comes from being embedded in the daily system of record, collecting task specific feedback, and getting better at company specific actions, not from owning the base model itself.

This is heading toward AI software that disappears into the operating system of the business. As models get cheaper, faster, and more reliable, the winners in this category will be the companies that own the workflow, the integrations, and the training data for narrow business actions, because that is what turns generic model output into durable enterprise software.
