The real buying decision in contract AI is won or lost with the business user, not the lawyer. For a lean in house team, the product only creates value if sales, procurement, or operations staff can submit a request, answer a few guided questions, route approvals, and recover from mistakes without legal stepping in. When those users fall off the happy path, the legal team becomes the workflow engine, which defeats the point of buying contract software at all.

  • This interview draws a hard line between legal work and business workflow. The non legal user should handle intake, approvals, and basic questions. Legal still owns redlining and judgment. That means the product has to behave more like guided internal software than like an AI assistant for attorneys.
