This category rewards independent vendors when customers need one layer that works across every cloud, but that same cross platform position also makes them natural acquisition targets for hyperscalers. Rubrik, Druva, and Veeam win by protecting data spread across on premises systems, SaaS apps, and multiple clouds from one console, while cloud providers are strongest inside their own stack. That leaves room for specialists until the platform owners decide the workflow should live inside their cloud suite.
