Revolut rebundling into primary bank
Revolut
This marks Revolut shifting from being a high frequency payments app into a primary bank account. Once customer salary deposits and cash balances sit inside a regulated current account, Revolut can sell lending, subscriptions, savings, cards, and trading from the same home screen, which is how neobanks move from low ARPU card economics into much richer bank economics.1 2 3 4
- The UK bank launch in March 2026 is the clearest step. Revolut Bank UK Ltd can now offer current accounts to its 13M UK customers, with eligible deposits covered by FSCS, giving Revolut a stronger claim on the main checking relationship than an e money wallet had.1 5
- Revolut already has the product shelves filled in. By 2025 it had 11 product lines doing at least $135M a year, including subscriptions, card payments, FX, wealth, and business banking. Rebundling means routing more of a customer’s money across those rails instead of just handling travel spend and transfers.2 3 4
- The playbook looks closer to Cash App, Chime, and Nubank than to Wise. Interchange only neobanks tend to earn tens of dollars per customer, while full service banks make much more because lending and deposits matter more than card swipe fees. That is why mortgages, personal loans, and BNPL matter strategically.4 6
The next phase is Revolut using bank status to pull in payroll, everyday bill pay, and borrowing, so the app becomes the first place customers keep cash, not just the cheapest place to move it. If that works, growth shifts from adding features to deepening wallet share, and Revolut starts to look less like a travel card winner and more like a global consumer bank.1 2 5
