CodeRabbit vs. GitHub
Jan-Erik Asplund
TL;DR: As AI coding tools like Cursor and Claude Code have tripled the pull request volume hitting senior engineers' queues, CodeRabbit (2023) launched as the AI-powered review layer. Sacra estimates CodeRabbit hit $40M ARR in April 2026, up ~700% year-over-year. For more, check out our full report and dataset on CodeRabbit.

As agentic coding has rapidly accelerated the volume of code being written, we’ve researched solutions for ensuring code quality and reducing human-in-the-loop bottlenecks including AI code review tools like CodeRabbit, AI developer productivity tools like LinearB, and security tools like Snyk and Endor Labs.
Key points on CodeRabbit via Sacra AI:
- As human code review became bottleneck as GitHub Copilot (2022) drove a surge of AI-generated code, CodeRabbit launched in 2023 as a GitHub app that hooks into pull requests (“PRs”)—proposals to add changes to a codebase—runs automated code and security analysis alongside LLM-based reasoning, and posts inline comments, walkthroughs, and diagrams in the PR. By offering 4 AI PR reviews per hour for free, CodeRabbit grew to 100,000+ users and became the #1 installed AI app on GitHub Marketplace, converting users to paid for unlimited reviews on per-developer subscriptions ($12-30/month) that naturally expand across the organization as AI coding democratizes PR creation to product people, marketers & designers.
- After scaling to $15M ARR & over 8,000 paying orgs bootstrapped, CodeRabbit raised $60M in its September 2025 Series B (Scale Venture Partners, CRV) at a $550M valuation for a 36.7x forward revenue multiple, with Sacra estimating that CodeRabbit hit $40M in April 2026, up 700% year-over-year. Compare to "Amplitude for AI code quality" LinearB at $16M in ARR in 2024, up 45% year-over-year, AI coding giant Cursor at $2B in annualized revenue in February 2026, up from $1.2B in 2025, up 1,100% YoY, and AI-centric security companies Endor Labs at $15M in ARR at the end of 2025, up 131% YoY from $6.5M in 2024 & Snyk at $326M ARR in February 2026, up 7% YoY.
- With GitHub controlling the pull request surface for the majority of developers and already offering native AI code review inside Copilot, CodeRabbit’s dependence on GitHub for access to pull requests and commits leaves it exposed if GitHub keeps improving review quality and bundles a good-enough product into seats 4M+ orgs already buy. Beyond GitHub, the next wave of competition is coming from Cursor (via its Graphite acquisition), Claude Code, OpenAI Codex, and Gemini, which are moving from code generation into code review & security analysis as part of creating new workflows for agentic AI coding.
