Databricks is turning a horizontal data platform into a set of higher value products that map to how large enterprises actually buy. A bank, hospital, or security team rarely wants raw infrastructure alone. They want prebuilt workflows, governance, and partner data that fit regulated use cases on day one. That lets Databricks sell against point vendors with a more complete package, while charging more than it could for generic compute and storage alone.

In cybersecurity, Databricks is packaging its lakehouse as an application layer for security teams, not just data engineers. Its Data Intelligence for Cybersecurity product is built to unify logs from IT, security, and business systems, which puts it closer to the day to day workflow of SIEM and observability vendors like Cribl, Splunk, and Datadog.

In regulated industries, the premium comes from making sensitive data usable without custom plumbing. Databricks already has Unity Catalog as a shared governance layer, and partners like Immuta extend policy controls across platforms. That matters in finance and healthcare, where buyers pay for faster approval, safer sharing, and fewer manual controls, not just faster queries.

Partnerships make the vertical motion more credible. SAP now embeds SAP Databricks inside Business Data Cloud, and FactSet has been recognized as Databricks Financial Services Data Partner of the Year. That gives Databricks a path into industry workflows through systems customers already trust, instead of forcing a rip and replace sale.
The next step is more industry packages that bundle data, governance, and agent workflows into opinionated products. If Databricks keeps moving this way, it becomes less of a general purpose lakehouse and more of an industry operating layer for AI, which should expand average deal size and pull it into budget pools owned by business units, not just central data teams.
