Meeting AI Split: Clipto vs Otter
Clipto
This split shows that meeting AI is turning into two different products, a workflow system for companies and a personal memory layer for individuals. Clipto wins by letting one person search across a call recording, a PDF, a photo, and a local video file from one place on device. Otter wins by fitting cleanly into how a company already runs meetings, with calendar bots, admin controls, SSO, CRM hooks, and compliance features that make deployment repeatable across teams.
-
Otter built scale around the bot that joins Zoom, Meet, and Teams automatically, then turns the transcript into shared notes, tasks, and sales coaching. That product spreads inside organizations because every meeting follows the same calendar to call to recap workflow. Clipto is broader in file types, but less anchored to a standard team process.
-
Granola points to the other path, going lower in the stack with a desktop app that watches for mic activity and captures meetings without living inside the meeting app itself. That helps with data access and personal context, but it still centers on meetings first. Clipto pushes the same local first logic past meetings into a general index for media and documents.
-
The revenue gap shows which behavior is already budgeted. Otter was at $100M ARR in March 2025, while Clipto was at an estimated $15M ARR in January 2026. Companies already pay for standardized note taking and follow up workflows. The bigger bet for Clipto is that users will also pay for a private search layer over everything they have seen and heard.
Going forward, the strongest products will likely combine both layers. The meeting app category will keep adding enterprise workflow features, while local first tools will race to become a daily memory interface for all personal work artifacts. If Clipto keeps moving up from search into actions and team features, it can narrow the gap. If not, it remains a strong personal companion beside the company system of record.
