Faire’s lead comes from building the first wholesale marketplace with real cross border liquidity, not just a strong local catalog. Once a retailer can open one account and buy from a huge pool of brands across North America, Europe, and Australia, the marketplace gets better with every new country added. That scale advantage is hard for regional players to match because they must build buyer demand, brand supply, payments, and trust market by market.

  • Faire had 800,000 plus retailers on platform in 2023 and had expanded to 100 plus countries, after launching in the UK and Australia and then adding many more European markets. That gives brands one place to reach global independent retail, instead of stitching together separate distributors and country specific marketplaces.
  • The European challengers are meaningfully smaller and more regional. Ankorstore said it had 200,000 retailers and 15,000 brands across Europe at its 2022 Series C. Qogita today emphasizes a network of 500 plus suppliers across 30 plus European countries and the UK, with a much narrower health and beauty focus.
  • This matters because wholesale marketplaces get stronger when they sit inside the full buying workflow. The winning platform is not just where a store discovers products, it is where the store places orders, gets payment terms, manages repeat purchasing, and eventually runs more of its procurement stack. Bigger geographic coverage makes those workflow tools more valuable.

The next phase is less about adding the next country and more about turning geographic scale into deeper operating leverage. Faire is positioned to use its larger transaction graph to improve search, matching, lending, and retailer software, which should pull more wholesale spend onto the platform and widen the gap with regionally focused competitors.
