From dupe brand to fragrance house

Diving deeper into

Dossier

Company Report
Dossier's most immediate TAM expansion path is moving from a dupe-entry brand into a full fragrance house with multiple product ladders.
Analyzed 6 sources

The key move is turning a one time dupe purchase into a multi product fragrance relationship. Impressions win the first order because the shopper already knows the smell they want, but a fragrance house makes money by giving that same shopper reasons to buy again across originals, samples, larger bottles, candles, diffusers, and membership credits. That is how Dossier expands from being a cheaper substitute into being a broader scent brand with its own shelf and repeat spend loop.

  • Originals are the clearest proof point because they are owned formulas, not lookalikes. They were just under 10% of DTC sales but 26% of TikTok Shop sales in May 2025, and Dossier launched 16 new Originals in 2025 across named collections like Musk, Wedding, and Wellness. That looks like category building, not just clone merchandising.
  • Multiple ladders matter because fragrance is hard to buy cold online. Dossier now sells 3ml member samples, 11ml trio sets, a 15 bottle Originals trial set, $39 Originals, $29 Impressions, and $79 100ml bestsellers. Circana said U.S. mini and travel fragrance units grew 12% and mini and discovery sets grew 41% through September 2025, so the market is already rewarding this try before full size ladder.
  • This shift also changes the competitive set. ALT stays tightly tied to the clone decision, while Fine'ry, MIX:BAR, and Good Chemistry train shoppers to buy affordable originals on the shelf at Target. Dossier needs Originals, boutiques, and home fragrance because once it sits next to good enough originals, price alone is not a durable edge.

The next step is a brand architecture that lets Dossier launch new scent families, formats, and collaborations without needing a prestige scent to copy first. If Originals keep over indexing in discovery channels like TikTok Shop and trial sets, Dossier can grow average order value and lifetime value by behaving more like an accessible fragrance house than a dupe catalog.
