Revolut Expands Into Private Banking

Revolut

Company Report
a move that would give it a direct foothold in private banking alongside its mass-market neobank

This points to Revolut trying to turn a huge low cost consumer user base into a ladder that climbs all the way to wealthy clients and much fatter fee pools. The mass market app gets people in with cards, FX, and everyday banking, then wealth products keep larger balances inside the same interface, and a private bank would add human advice, private capital access, and bespoke portfolio management instead of stopping at self directed trading and savings.1 2 3 4 5

  • Revolut already has the raw ingredients for this move. It estimated $6B of 2025 revenue, 70M plus retail customers, and $67.5B of customer balances, while its wealth unit had already become a breakout line of business in 2024. Private banking is the next step in monetizing bigger accounts, not a brand new direction.1 2
  • The product path is getting more sophisticated. UK regulatory approval in May 2026 expanded Revolut Trading into advisory, portfolio management, and broader investment services, and reporting in May 2026 said the company was exploring a private bank for UK and European wealthy clients. That moves Revolut closer to serving affluent users the way a broker and private bank do, not just a neobank.3 4
  • The private markets piece matters because wealthy clients want access to funds that normal brokerage apps rarely carry. Revolut has since launched private markets access in Europe through distribution deals with Apollo, Ares, Hamilton Lane, and Partners Group. That mirrors the wider shift in alternatives from selling only through private banks and wirehouses toward app based distribution with lower minimums.5 6

From here, Revolut is heading toward a barbell model, mass market banking at one end and high net worth wealth at the other. If it executes, the app becomes less dependent on interchange, FX, and crypto swings, and more like a full stack financial platform that captures deposits, advice fees, fund distribution fees, and a larger share of affluent customers' total wallet.1 2 5 6
