Its CPQ docs note that usage based pricing does not support core CPQ or Billing managed package features, while Salesforce Billing handles usage through price or consumption schedules. That works for simpler scheduled consumption, but not for fast moving product led pricing that changes with live product events.

Oracle NetSuite supports usage constructs like charge rules, pricing modifiers, and estimated usage billing, but the workflow is ERP first. Teams still have to map product telemetry into NetSuite objects and billing schedules, which is why implementation usually means consultants, custom data pipelines, and careful handoffs between engineering, finance, and RevOps.

Zuora bought Togai in April 2024 to add low code metering and rating for up to a billion events per day, and Stripe completed its Metronome acquisition on January 14, 2026 to pair high throughput metering with billing. Sequence is competing in the same shift from contract system to monetization infrastructure.
The category is moving toward systems where quoting, metering, billing, and revenue accounting sit on one event stream instead of four stitched together apps. That expands the market beyond classic billing software, because the winning product becomes the control plane for pricing itself, especially for AI, API, and hybrid SaaS businesses that change packaging every quarter.
