Buying PactSafe let Ironclad move upstream from legal teams reviewing negotiated contracts into product led agreement flows that fire millions of times on websites and inside apps. That matters because clickwrap is not a PDF workflow. It is a live acceptance event, where a user clicks agree, the company stores the exact terms version, timestamp, and context, and legal needs a defensible audit trail when terms change or a dispute appears later.

  • Traditional CLM mainly serves legal ops, sales, procurement, HR, and finance teams working through drafted documents and approval chains. Clickwrap adds product and engineering teams that manage signup flows, checkout pages, mobile app consent, and self serve user onboarding. It expands both buyer persona and usage frequency inside the same account.
  • The product is concrete. Legal publishes terms, engineering embeds the acceptance flow on web or mobile, and the system records who accepted which version and when. That is why PactSafe was strategically adjacent to Ironclad, it turned static legal text into an operational system for online terms, consents, and disclosures.
  • This also fit a broader bundle. Ironclad has since added native e signature and kept pushing toward a unified contract stack. In that model, clickwrap handles high volume self serve agreements, while core CLM handles negotiated enterprise contracts, giving Ironclad more ways to raise spend per customer and become the system of record for all agreement types.

The next step is tighter linking between clickwrap events, negotiated contracts, and AI analysis. As contracting becomes a data problem instead of a document storage problem, platforms that can track every agreement from website checkbox to signed enterprise deal will have the clearest path to larger deployments and deeper lock in.
