This is a distribution breakthrough disguised as a product improvement. If implementation shrinks from weeks of setup work into a few minutes of guided configuration, Wingspan can move from selling a high touch contractor ops system to becoming infrastructure that HR and payroll platforms can embed at scale. That matters because contractor management gets painful when customers juggle onboarding rules, tax forms, insurance checks, and payment workflows across dozens or hundreds of 1099 workers.

  • The workflow being automated is concrete. Wingspan says AI now reads a company’s requirements and existing processes, then configures onboarding and verification flows automatically. It is also using AI to review certificates of insurance, business licenses, tax forms, classification risk, reconciliation, and support tickets, with more than 54% of support cases resolved instantly.
  • This is what makes embedded rollout possible. Wingspan launched Wingspan Embed in July 2025 so HCMs and PEOs can white label contractor onboarding, payments, tax automation, and 1099 compliance inside their own product. Insperity became the anchor partner, adding contractor management powered by Wingspan to keep mixed W-2 and 1099 workforces inside one system.
  • The competitive angle is speed versus building. Rippling has been building contractor tools natively, including invoice generation, approval routing, and global contractor management. Wingspan is taking the opposite path, turning specialized contractor workflows into an easy to launch layer for platforms that already own the employer relationship but do not want a long services heavy buildout.

The next step is a land grab inside existing payroll and HR software. As AI reduces setup friction, contractor management starts to look less like a bespoke module and more like a standard feature every workforce platform can switch on. That favors specialists like Wingspan that can package deep compliance and payment logic into a fast embedded product.
