The product design reinforces that shift, users type sparse notes during calls, then use chat, search, and shared workflows after the meeting to retrieve and apply what was learned.

The product is built around post meeting use, not live AI spectacle. Granola records locally on desktop, lets users type quick fragments during the conversation, then enhances those notes afterward. That makes it natural to save impressions like sentiment, risks, and next steps, which are the pieces missing from a raw transcript but most valuable later.

Once users start querying across meetings, the job shifts from note taker to internal search layer. Granola chat can answer questions on a single meeting, a folder, or all meetings, and workspaces position that corpus as a shared knowledge base. Recipes pushes this further by turning common follow ups, like extracting bugs or summarizing product feedback, into reusable team workflows.

This is also how Granola separates from bot based transcription tools and from broad workspaces like Notion. Otter scaled by dropping bots into calls and emailing transcripts, while Notion bundles meeting notes into a larger docs and database system. Granola is trying to own the moment right after the meeting, when messy conversation becomes searchable company memory and downstream work.
The next step is for meeting memory to become workflow infrastructure. As Granola adds integrations, shared recipes, and more ways to query notes across teams, the product can become the system that turns conversations into CRM updates, project tickets, hiring assessments, and accumulated context that compounds with every meeting.
