Google Will Bundle Agentic Enterprise Search

I wouldn't be shocked if Google does offer this in the next year.

The real takeaway is that agentic search is turning into a feature that large platforms can bundle, not a standalone market they must buy. Google already has the pieces, enterprise search in Agentspace, grounding in Vertex AI Search, and agent tooling in Gemini Enterprise, so the remaining step is packaging them into a smoother developer and employee workflow. That makes startups like Exa, Parallel, and Tavily vulnerable to distribution from a company that already owns search, cloud, and workplace entry points.

  • The interview frames Parallel and Exa as useful but not deeply defensible. Cohere uses Tavily for web grounding because it is easier to integrate, while Parallel is valued more for deeper multi step research workflows than for a unique underlying index. That suggests the product edge is packaging and workflow design, not an uncopyable core asset.
  • Google has already moved well past generic search APIs. Agentspace is positioned as enterprise search plus an AI assistant plus an agent platform, with connectors into systems like SharePoint, Jira, Confluence, and ServiceNow. Vertex AI Agent Builder also lets agents ground responses with Google Search and other structured data providers. The capability set is already overlapping the startup stack.
  • The broader pattern is visible in enterprise AI. Google and Microsoft are pressuring Glean by bundling AI search into Workspace and Microsoft 365, and the same bundling logic applies even more strongly to web search infrastructure for agents. Once a platform vendor includes search, grounding, security, and admin controls in one contract, point solutions get pushed toward niche use cases or lower level supplier roles.

The next phase is a split market. Big platforms will absorb the horizontal search and agent layer, while independents survive by going narrower and better, with domain specific indexes, better retrieval for finance or medicine, or superior developer ergonomics for teams that do not want to live fully inside Google Cloud. The winners will be the ones that become indispensable in a specific workflow before the bundle closes over them.
