This is a market structure signal, not just a product comment. When Adobe and Google push avatar generation into tools teams already use for editing, presentations, and work videos, they turn avatars into one more button inside a broader workflow. That makes it harder for standalone avatar companies to justify software like platform businesses, even when growth is fast, because incumbents can bundle the feature into suites where users already write scripts, edit clips, publish, and collaborate.

  • The real buyer is often not shopping for an avatar tool, but for faster video output inside an existing stack. Adobe is adding AI video into Firefly and GenStudio workflows, and Google Vids now includes Veo powered clip generation, AI voiceovers, and AI avatars inside Workspace. That pulls demand toward bundled suites and away from a separate avatar app.
  • The standalone leaders are responding by expanding beyond avatar generation. Synthesia added screen recording, script based editing, translation, hosting, analytics, lead capture, and publishing, aiming to become the place a company manages its business videos end to end. That is what supports a higher multiple, not the avatar alone.
  • Comparables show why incumbents hesitate to pay premium platform prices for a single feature category. As of September 2025, HeyGen was at about $95M ARR and Synthesia at about $146M ARR, but broader creative and video suites like Canva, Vimeo, Wistia, and Google Workspace can absorb avatar features into much larger products and distribution channels. Adobe also made a strategic investment in Synthesia in April 2025 rather than buying the whole category outright.

The next phase is a race to own the full workflow around AI video. If incumbents keep bundling avatar generation into creative and productivity suites, standalone companies will win by becoming systems of record for specific jobs like training, sales outreach, and multilingual business video, or by supplying infrastructure and APIs to the suites themselves.
