Licensing the AI engine turns Daylight from a services vendor into both a tool vendor and a services vendor, which makes the top of funnel much wider. Many companies already have a SOC and do not want to outsource the whole function, but they do want help with the repetitive first pass of reading alerts, linking related events, and deciding what needs a human. Daylight already positions its core system as doing exactly that inside its MDR service, so selling the engine alone lets it monetize customers that are not ready to buy full MDR yet.

  • This follows a familiar security land and expand pattern. CrowdStrike, SentinelOne, and Rapid7 all market AI features that offload alert triage and investigation for in house SOC teams, then use that workflow foothold to pull customers deeper into broader detection and response products over time.
  • The buyer and budget can be different from full MDR. A standalone automation product is usually sold to a security leader trying to make an existing analyst team more productive, while MDR is sold as a partial or full replacement for that team. That opens a second revenue stream without forcing Daylight to abandon its core outsourced model.

The market is heading toward blended security operations, where software handles the huge pile of low level alert work and humans step in for the messy edge cases. If Daylight can win those automation seats first, it can build product familiarity, data access, and trust that make full MDR the natural next purchase as customers decide they would rather outsource more of the workflow.
