A marketplace would let HoneyBook make money from matching, not just from software seats, and that matters because it already sits in the middle of real service workflows. Providers already use it to capture leads, send proposals, sign contracts, schedule work, and collect payment. That means HoneyBook can see who does what, who pays on time, and which provider relationships turn into repeat business, which is the raw material a marketplace needs.

  • HoneyBook already has enough activity on the platform to seed both sides of a network. Its members have built 28M client relationships, booked more than $23B in projects, and paid 7M invoices through the product. That is much closer to a live transaction graph than a simple CRM database.
  • The easiest starting point is provider to provider matching, not a full consumer marketplace. A wedding photographer can refer a planner, a designer can pull in a copywriter, and HoneyBook can sit in the workflow where the intro, proposal, contract, and payment already happen. That is operationally simpler than buying demand from consumers from scratch.
  • Comparable marketplaces show the monetization path. Broad labor marketplaces like Upwork win through liquidity, while service marketplaces like Thumbtack charge around lead flow and customer acquisition. HoneyBook could take a narrower route, using software subscription plus payments plus referral or booking fees inside categories where trust and repeat relationships matter most.

The next step is likely a vertical marketplace layer built on top of finance and workflow tools, not a separate app. If HoneyBook keeps deepening payments, checking, and automation, it can turn from a system that helps independents run client work into one that also helps them find the next job and the next collaborator.
