Cursor Shifts to Agentic IDE

Cursor is no longer just helping write code, it is training users to supervise code that the machine increasingly writes and runs itself. Making Agent the default moves the product from a side panel assistant into the main workflow. A developer can now ask for a change, let Cursor search the codebase and the web, open the terminal, run commands, and coordinate more than one agent at once. That puts Cursor on the same path as Devin and Claude Code, but with the advantage of starting inside the editor where developers already spend their day.

Cursor is building an enterprise sales team, while Windsurf scaled a large GTM org and Cognition combined Devin's self serve agent demand with Windsurf's enterprise motion. The winning product is likely the one that serves both lone developers and centralized engineering buyers.

The next step is an AI development workspace where edit suggestions, long running agents, terminal execution, and enterprise controls live in one surface. As these products converge, the center of gravity shifts to whoever owns the daily developer loop, the context around the codebase, and the trust to let agents act with less supervision.
