Bundling Gives Incumbents Distribution Advantage

Diving deeper into

Stability AI

Company Report
Their ability to bundle generative AI into existing enterprise software relationships provides distribution advantages that pure-play companies like Stability cannot easily replicate.

Bundling turns generative AI from a product a buyer must discover and approve into a feature that rides along with software budgets and vendor contracts that already exist. Google can sell Imagen and Veo through Vertex AI and broader Cloud relationships, and Adobe can drop Firefly directly into Creative Cloud seats, so enterprise buyers get procurement, security, and workflow integration in the same motion. Stability, by contrast, still has to win a separate model decision, a separate budget line, and often a separate technical integration.

  • In practice, distribution is about where the user already works. Google has put Imagen and Veo inside Vertex AI, its managed enterprise AI stack. Adobe includes Firefly access inside Creative Cloud and Firefly plans. That means the image or video tool shows up inside software design, marketing, and IT teams already pay for.
  • Pure play model companies usually monetize per API call or per asset generated, which makes them more exposed to price compression. Stability sells usage based API credits and enterprise licenses, while larger platforms can treat generation as a feature that helps sell cloud spend, app subscriptions, or broader enterprise suites.
  • The creative AI market keeps shifting value up the stack from raw generation to packaged workflows. Synthesia built script writing, avatars, translation, hosting, and analytics into one product and reached $100M ARR in March 2025. OpenArt built simple canvas workflows on top of underlying models and reached $70M ARR in 2025. That is the same pressure Stability faces from both incumbents and specialists.

Going forward, the winners in creative AI will be the companies that either own enterprise distribution or own a complete workflow. For Stability, that points toward becoming deeply embedded infrastructure through clouds and partners, or moving higher into vertical tools where the customer is buying a finished workflow, not just model output.
