CoreWeave Becomes AI Infrastructure Backbone

Diving deeper into

CoreWeave at $2B revenue

Document
With a dominating lead among cloud GPUs and plans to IPO in 2025, CoreWeave is now positioned as core infrastructure for the race to build consumer-scale AI products.

CoreWeave’s edge is that it turned scarce Nvidia chips into a full production cloud before the hyperscalers could fully absorb demand. That matters because consumer AI products do not just need raw training runs, they need always on clusters, autoscaling, networking, storage, and reliable APIs to serve millions of end users. CoreWeave won by offering H100 access early, then layering AWS like operating features on top, which made it useful both to Microsoft sized buyers and to startups shipping real products.

  • The market split by customer type. CoreWeave focused on large reserved clusters and multi year commitments, while Lambda and Fluidstack served smaller teams with more flexibility, and Together sat one layer up selling per token access on top of rented GPU capacity. That placed CoreWeave closest to the biggest model builders and app platforms.
  • What customers were buying was not just cheaper compute. Heyday used CoreWeave for all ML workloads in production because it could expose public APIs, connect into AWS networks, autoscale GPU services, and run Kubernetes based workloads without rewriting code. Lambda was cheaper, but better for experiments than live product traffic.
  • The IPO turned the earlier setup into public market proof. CoreWeave priced its IPO on March 27, 2025 and began trading on Nasdaq on March 28, 2025. Its 2025 filing showed $1.9B of 2024 revenue, with Microsoft representing 62%, which highlights both the scale of demand and how tightly CoreWeave was wired into the largest AI deployment channel.

From here, GPU cloud leaders are moving from chip scarcity trades into AI utilities. The winners will be the providers that can keep adding power, data centers, storage, and orchestration fast enough that model labs and consumer AI apps can scale without building everything themselves. That favors CoreWeave because it already sits in the deployment path, not just the hardware supply chain.
