GrubMarket Becomes Global Produce Sourcing Node
GrubMarket
Salix turned GrubMarket from a mostly domestic produce roll up into a global sourcing node. Instead of relying mainly on U.S. growers and distributors, GrubMarket gained a fruit trading business with hundreds of growers in more than 20 countries and customers across about 50 countries, which matters because produce buyers need year round supply, seasonal variety, and backup origins when weather or pricing shifts in one region.

This is not just more SKUs. Salix brought a prebuilt import and export workflow, supplier relationships, and cross border trade lanes in apples, citrus, pears, grapes, and other produce. That gives GrubMarket a way to source fruit from whichever country is in season, then route it into grocery and foodservice demand.
-
The pattern matches GrubMarket’s larger acquisition strategy. GrubMarket has completed more than 90 acquisitions and uses them to add both inventory and operating capability. Salix adds international origination, while other deals added U.S. distribution muscle like South American stone fruit importing and tropical produce logistics.

The Europe angle shows how the asset can open new markets, not just feed the U.S. In March 2023, GrubMarket said Salix had started supplying produce into Ukraine and Romania. That suggests Salix functions as an international trading platform that can move product across regions where GrubMarket did not previously have a direct footprint.
Going forward, deals like Salix push GrubMarket closer to a digital version of a global produce merchant combined with a software enabled distributor. The more countries, seasons, and lanes it controls, the more useful its network becomes to supermarkets, restaurants, and wholesalers that want one vendor that can keep shelves stocked through constant supply shocks.
