Rev sells HIPAA, SOC 2, SSO, and legal specific workflows through its cloud platform. Local processing gives Clipto a different answer for buyers who want to avoid upload entirely.

The practical buyer is not a generic consumer team. It is a partner at a law firm reviewing recorded testimony, a healthcare group handling PHI, or an investor team indexing confidential management calls. In those settings, the product needs shared libraries, permissions, billing, and audit trails around the local engine, because privacy alone does not make software deployable inside an organization.

Local first also narrows the device base. Clipto currently depends on Apple silicon Macs with at least 16GB of memory, or Windows PCs with at least 12GB in beta, so performance and onboarding depend on customer hardware rather than centrally managed cloud infrastructure. That tradeoff is acceptable when data sensitivity is the deciding factor.
The path forward is turning local transcription into a full enterprise control plane. If Clipto adds policy controls, compliance layers, and vertical workflows around its on device core, it can win budgets from legal, healthcare, and research teams that will pay more for software that keeps sensitive recordings inside their own walls from the start.
