Mirakl take rate erosion risk

Diving deeper into

Mirakl

Company Report
Pressure on take rates compounds with the risk that newer revenue lines (Ads, Connect, Nexus) remain small relative to core platform SaaS
Analyzed 4 sources

The core risk is that Mirakl is still mostly a marketplace infrastructure company, so if its base pricing keeps drifting down, the newer layers need to become meaningful fast enough to matter. The evidence so far shows Ads is growing quickly, but from a smaller base, while Connect and Nexus are positioned more as extensions around the core marketplace stack than as revenue engines already large enough to offset a sustained decline in effective take rate.1 2 3 4

  • Mirakl’s monetization is still anchored in a negotiable mix of annual SaaS fees and GMV based fees. That has already pushed its effective take rate down to about 2%, from 4.5% in 2015, which means large enterprise customers have bargaining power as marketplace software becomes more common.1 4
  • Ads is the clearest adjacent upside, because it lets sellers pay for sponsored placement across Mirakl retailers and can carry much higher margins than software or retail. But marketplace ads usually work only after a platform has enough seller competition and measurement maturity, which makes ramp time slower than the headline opportunity suggests.1 2 4
  • The newer products are also uneven in maturity. Ads launched in 2022 and grew more than 100% in 2024, while Nexus only launched in December 2025 as a catalog and inventory layer for AI agents, and Connect is described as part of the broader expansion beyond core infrastructure, without evidence here that it is yet a large standalone revenue contributor.2 3 4

The next phase is about whether Mirakl can turn marketplace control into higher value seller monetization before core pricing looks more like commodity software. If Ads becomes a standard add on, and if Connect and Nexus start generating usage based revenue tied to seller demand and agentic traffic, Mirakl can shift from selling software seats to taking a larger share of marketplace economics.2 3 4
