The pressure was less about another transcript library existing, and more about who could turn transcripts into a daily research habit. Tegus believed its edge was that calls came from real investor demand, then were added to a shared library with compliance metadata, audio, and searchable transcripts. That made the product feel more like proprietary research exhaust than mass produced content, even as rivals pushed free calls and broader but lower signal libraries.

  • Inside Tegus, GLG and GuidePoint were the core benchmark on expert sourcing speed, not Stream on library scale. The harder constraint was transcription itself. Tegus required every call to be recorded and transcribed, while traditional networks could sometimes offer non transcribed calls for clients with tighter compliance rules.
  • Tegus responded to library competition by leaning into quality and workflow depth. It bundled transcripts with Canalyst models and BamSEC filings, then added AI summaries, common question views, and search tools so an analyst could move from an expert comment to a model or filing in one session.
  • Competitors like Stream and Mosaic created price pressure by offering free or heavily subsidized calls. Tegus still won on custom sourcing and seniority of experts, but those promotions mattered because many clients would tolerate lower consistency if the marginal cost of another call dropped close to zero.

Going forward, the winners in expert research will be the platforms that combine unique private content with fast synthesis across filings, models, and transcripts. That is why AlphaSense bought Tegus for $930M in June 2024. The market is shifting from stand alone call brokerage toward integrated research workstations where search, summarization, and proprietary content are sold together.
