Google investor and compute supplier to Anthropic
Anthropic
This reveals that frontier AI is being financed and physically delivered by the same hyperscalers it is trying to beat. Google is not just a cap table name for Anthropic, it is one of the pipes that Claude runs through. Anthropic disclosed at least about $114.5B of committed Google spend through July 2033 in its prospectus, plus a separate Broadcom leasing structure for Google TPU based capacity, which makes Google both a strategic backer and a core infrastructure counterparty.1 2 3 4 5
- The relationship is unusually concrete. Anthropic has said it expanded its partnership with Google and Broadcom for multiple gigawatts of next generation compute, and Broadcom disclosed Anthropic will access about 3.5 gigawatts of TPU based capacity beginning in 2027 through that arrangement.2 3
- This is different from a normal cloud reseller deal. Anthropic sells Claude through Google Cloud, where customers can choose Claude or Gemini on the same buying surface, while Google also supplies the chips and data center path that help Anthropic train and serve models.6 7 2
- The strategic tradeoff is clear in the broader market. Anthropic has also taken large strategic investments from Amazon and Google, showing how frontier labs increasingly swap equity and long dated infrastructure commitments for guaranteed access to scarce compute.5 8 9
Going forward, the winners in AI will not just be the labs with the best models, but the ones that lock in enough power, chips, and distribution to keep shipping at scale. Anthropic’s tie up with Google points toward a market where rival labs and rival clouds stay entangled, because no frontier model company can grow without hyperscaler capital and compute.1 2 4 7
