Noom hedges GLP-1 supply channels

Noom

Company Report
This positions Noom to capture demand through compounded options while maintaining a compliant branded-drug pathway as regulatory restrictions on compounding tighten further.

Noom is trying to keep the customer relationship no matter which GLP-1 supply path survives. When shortages made compounding possible, low priced compounded doses let Noom win price sensitive users. As the FDA closed that window in 2025, Noom also built a branded channel into LillyDirect through Gifthealth for FDA approved Zepbound vials, so the app can still handle prescribing, refill visibility, and coaching even if compounded supply gets squeezed out.1 2 3 4 5

  • The practical reason this matters is that GLP-1 demand splits into two groups. One group needs the cheapest monthly option and often pays cash. Another can qualify for on label branded treatment. Noom can route both through one intake, one clinician flow, and one behavior change product instead of losing one segment entirely.1 2 4
  • This is becoming the standard playbook in obesity telehealth. Ro and Hims first used compounded GLP-1s to serve cash pay patients during shortages, then shifted toward LillyDirect and NovoCare as compounding rules tightened. The front end stays telehealth branded, but the drug increasingly comes from manufacturer controlled channels.3 4 5
  • The tradeoff is margin versus durability. Compounded GLP-1s can carry much higher fulfillment margins for telehealth platforms, while branded supply is more compliant but passes more of the drug economics back to Lilly or Novo. That pushes Noom to make its money on care management, adherence, coaching, and retention, not just on markup.2 4 6

The next phase is a shift from access arbitrage to service differentiation. As manufacturers and regulators narrow the room for mass market compounding, the winners will be the platforms that can keep patients inside their own workflow for prescribing, dose changes, side effect support, and long term weight management, even when the medication itself becomes a branded utility.2 3 4 5 6
