Figma Bought Like A Team Tool

Diving deeper into

Figma

Company Report
Contract size has not (yet) grown sufficiently large for end-users and decision-makers to decouple

This shows Figma was still being bought like a team tool, not yet governed like a company wide software contract. In practice, the people who loved and used Figma every day, design leaders, product designers, and nearby collaborators, were still close to the budget holder. That kept adoption fast and self serve. It also meant Figma had more room to grow by adding broader workflows before procurement and IT became the center of the sale.1 2 3 4

  • Inside companies, the buyer was often a VP of Experience or Head of Design, not central IT. One team upgraded itself, often without talking to sales, because the license cost and setup burden were low and the files were not seen as highly sensitive compared with systems like Salesforce or HubSpot.1
  • Expansion happened through workflow pull, not executive mandate. A product manager or engineer first opened a file to comment, then got edit access when they needed to change copy, reuse components, or build on a design system. That is land and expand inside a team, but not yet the same as an org wide procurement motion.1 2
  • The comparison is Canva. In large accounts, Canva described the same ceiling, users could spread bottom up, but once contracts got bigger the purchaser shifted toward security, SSO, access control, and bulk pricing. That is the point where end user love stops being enough on its own and enterprise sales has to take over.3 4

The next stage is larger, more centralized contracts driven by cross functional use. As Figma adds products that PMs, marketers, and executives use directly, contract value rises and the sale moves from design led adoption to a blend of product pull, security review, and top down standardization across the company.2 3 4
