Kalshi Challenges Polymarket With Perps

Kalshi

Company Report
Kalshi’s launch of perpetual futures directly challenges Polymarket’s traditional crypto domain.

Kalshi is no longer just fighting Polymarket for event contracts, it is attacking the crypto trader habit loop itself. Perpetual futures let a U.S. user take leveraged Bitcoin exposure with no wallet and no offshore exchange, which moves Kalshi into the highest frequency part of crypto trading while using its regulated rails. That matters because Polymarket built its early edge on crypto native users, crypto funding, and always on speculation, and now Kalshi can sell a similar cadence inside a domestic, CFTC regulated wrapper.1 2 3 4 5

  • The product change is concrete. Kalshi launched perpetual futures in May 2026 as its first major step beyond event contracts, then expanded into more 24 7 perpetual markets. Perps are open ended contracts that traders can hold indefinitely, which makes them closer to the core product set of crypto exchanges than to election or sports markets.1 2 6
  • Polymarket and Kalshi had been differentiated by rails as much as by market category. Polymarket grew on USDC settlement, zero or near zero trading fees, and offshore crypto liquidity, while Kalshi grew on fiat funding, higher take rates, and CFTC licensing. Kalshi adding perps narrows that product gap from the other direction.4 5 7
  • The broader market is converging around the same high volume behaviors. Internal research shows sports became the biggest volume driver for both platforms, while builders and aggregators like Dome increasingly treat Kalshi and Polymarket as interchangeable liquidity venues that can be matched and routed across. That pushes competition toward price, depth, and distribution rather than category alone.4 6 7

The next step is a three way convergence where prediction markets, sportsbooks, and crypto derivatives all start to look like the same retail trading product with different wrappers. If Kalshi keeps pairing regulated onboarding with crypto style instruments, it can pull activity away from offshore venues and force Polymarket to defend not just politics and sports, but the crypto native trading identity that made it valuable in the first place.1 3 5 7
