Commure positioning as hospital operating system
Commure
The real upside is that ambient documentation gives Commure a live stream of clinical workflow data that can be reused across the hospital. Once the software can listen to a visit, draft the note, pull out diagnoses and codes, and drop that output into the EHR, the same system can prepare chart summaries before visits, suggest next actions during care, route follow ups after discharge, and feed managers data on bottlenecks, denials, and staffing.1 2 3 4
- Commure is already packaging documentation with adjacent workflow tools. Its Tenet deployment highlights pre visit summaries, conversational follow up, instant note drafting, and automatic code capture, which is the bridge from note taking into decision support and revenue cycle software.3
- The Augmedix deal mattered because it added installed workflow at large health systems and a product built around structured output, not just transcripts. Commure said the combined companies were on track to support more than 3 million physician appointments in 2024, giving it distribution and data to train broader hospital software.2 5
- This is also how Commure can sell like Epic instead of like a single point tool. Hospitals buy in long contracts and expansion usually comes from adding another module into the same account. Commure had reached about $104M in annual recurring revenue by March 2024, while Epic remained the model of the all in one hospital stack at $4.9B of 2023 revenue.4 6
The next step is a shift from ambient AI as a clinician productivity tool to ambient AI as a hospital operating layer. If Commure keeps landing enterprise deployments like HCA and Tenet, the winning product will not be the best note writer alone. It will be the system that turns every encounter into actions for clinicians, billing teams, and operators.1 3 4
