Bundled Platforms Outcompete Standalone DSPM

Consolidation is shifting large DSPM deals from best product wins to best bundle wins. A backup, email, or cloud security vendor can attach data discovery to software the buyer already owns, cut the incremental price, and promise one procurement cycle, one support team, and one policy surface. That is a hard setup for a standalone vendor to beat unless it saves the customer work after deployment, not just during the sales process.

• Rubrik, Veeam, CrowdStrike, Fortinet, and Proofpoint are all using an installed base wedge. Rubrik added sensitive data discovery to backup workflows, Veeam moved into security through Securiti, CrowdStrike added DSPM to Falcon, Fortinet folded Next DLP into SASE, and Proofpoint brought Normalyze into its human centric security stack.

• For enterprise buyers, single vendor convenience is concrete. The same team that already backs up data, secures email, or manages cloud posture can now also scan for sensitive data, flag risky access, and route alerts into existing consoles and contracts. That reduces security review, integration work, and vendor management overhead.

• That leaves standalone vendors needing a sharper hook. BigID built a broad discovery and compliance platform, while Immuta shows the other path, deep workflow integration where detection feeds directly into policy enforcement and remediation. Teleskope has to win by automating the fix, not just finding the problem.

The market is heading toward fewer, broader data security platforms. As integrated vendors keep bundling DSPM into backup, cloud, and employee security suites, standalone players will increasingly be pushed toward one of two outcomes, becoming the automation layer customers keep on top of the suite, or becoming an acquisition target for a larger platform that wants deeper remediation.
