Current response still relies on mass production and release of sterile flies, so any genetic method that improves suppression plugs into an operating government system, not a speculative market.

APHIS describes screwworm as a threat to livestock, pets, wildlife, and sometimes people, and its economic impact material estimates hundreds of millions to over $1.4B in Texas losses under outbreak scenarios. That frames pricing around losses avoided, not around selling a research tool.

Colossal’s twist is to apply similar technical building blocks to animal health security.
The next step is commercialization through regulated pest management programs. If Colossal can turn genome editing into field ready screwworm control that is easier, cheaper, or more targeted than today’s sterile release system, it opens a repeatable business in agricultural biosecurity and creates a clear template for future spinouts around other pest and animal health problems.
