Owning the clearing layer turns Kalshi from a market storefront into the machine that moves cash, margin, and settlement underneath every trade. That matters because event contracts only feel liquid if markets can go live fast, resolve fast, and let idle customer cash stay useful between bets. Bringing clearing in house lets Kalshi approve and support more contract types, keep collateral inside its own system, and use interest on eligible balances as a retention feature instead of leaving that economics to an outside clearer.1 2 3 4

  • Before March 10, 2026, Kalshi cleared through MIAXdx. Kalshi Klear moved that function to an affiliated CFTC registered clearinghouse, which means the same company can now list a contract, collect collateral, manage default risk, and pay winners without handing the workflow to a third party.1 2 4
  • The practical edge is speed and product range. Kalshi says Klear supports faster listings, faster settlements, and more market categories. That is especially valuable in sports and breaking news markets, where a contract that goes live minutes earlier can capture most of the volume, and a contract that settles hours earlier lets traders reuse funds sooner.1 3 5
  • This also sharpens Kalshi's positioning against Polymarket. Polymarket has leaned on crypto rails and low fees for fast global settlement, while Kalshi has leaned on regulated U.S. market structure. An owned clearinghouse helps Kalshi close some of the speed gap while keeping the regulatory credibility that partners like Robinhood and brokers want.3 5 6

The next step is that clearing becomes the base layer for a broader prediction market stack, not just a back office function. If Kalshi keeps using Klear to launch new categories, recycle collateral faster, and bundle yield with trading balances, it becomes harder for partners and users to switch away, and easier for Kalshi to act like the exchange infrastructure others plug into.1 3 5 6
