Cerebras powers low-latency coding agents
Cerebras
Cerebras is winning where latency changes the product itself, not just the unit cost. In coding agents, enterprise search, and other back and forth workflows, faster token generation means the model feels interactive instead of batch like. That lets customers keep users in the loop while the model writes code, searches documents, or reasons through a task, which is why Cerebras shows up in products like Cognition, Notion, Cline, Meta’s Llama API, and OpenAI’s Codex-Spark.1 2 3 4 5 6
- The core advantage is not generic model hosting, it is speed on very large open models. Cerebras has been cited at up to 950 tokens per second for Cognition’s SWE-1.5, 1,500 tokens per second for Qwen3-235B with 131K context, and more than 1,000 tokens per second for OpenAI’s Codex-Spark. Those speeds matter most when a user is waiting on each next action.1 2 5 6
- This has pulled Cerebras up the stack from selling hardware into selling inference as a service. Earlier research describes Cerebras shifting from $2M hardware systems toward a pay per token cloud API, with inference growing from near zero to roughly 30% of revenue mix within two years. That is a much stickier business because usage expands with customer workloads instead of ending at the initial box sale.2 7
- The clearest comparable is Groq, but Cerebras is landing more visible distribution. Meta said its Llama API would use Cerebras and Groq for faster inference, while OpenAI made Cerebras the first low latency serving tier for Codex-Spark. That positioning matters because the fastest provider increasingly becomes the default engine behind coding tools and agent products, even when the end user never sees the infrastructure brand.3 4 5 8
The next step is for ultra fast inference to become a standard premium lane inside larger model platforms. If Cerebras keeps owning the low latency slice, it can become the specialist backend for coding, search, and agent products that need instant responses, while hyperscalers and model labs keep the broader general purpose serving layers around it.2 4 5 8
