This moment separates stablecoin companies that are selling a token story from the ones quietly becoming payment infrastructure. After the fraud and speculation washout of 2022 and 2023, the winning products are the ones that make a familiar job better, sending supplier payments, paying contractors, moving treasury cash, or funding cards, with stablecoins hidden inside the workflow. That is why Bhanu frames the burden as proof of utility, not proof of ideology.

  • Layer2's own pivot shows what counts as a real use case. It moved from crypto-as-a-service into cross-border payment plumbing for fintechs, neobanks, banks, and processors after seeing demand for on-ramping, off-ramping, third party payouts, and corporate payments in corridors where SWIFT is slow and expensive.
  • The comparable pattern at Rain is that demand comes from ordinary payment jobs, not crypto trading. Rain started with a stablecoin backed corporate card, then found platforms wanted to issue payment instruments against stablecoin balances so users could spend globally without caring what rail settled the transaction.
  • Mainstream validation now comes from payments incumbents adopting the rail for narrow jobs. Stripe added USDC payments in April 2024, then expanded stablecoin products after acquiring Bridge, and Visa has expanded USDC settlement with banking partners, all signs that the strongest wedge is back end money movement, not consumer speculation.

The next phase is less about convincing people to use crypto and more about making stablecoins disappear into normal financial software. As banks, processors, and fintech platforms adopt them for settlement, payout, and treasury workflows, the category shifts from controversial asset class to faster cross-border infrastructure, which is the clearest path to durable adoption.
