Yuanfudao is trying to turn a one task homework tablet into the default study station in a child’s room. Its latest device combines a tablet, scanner, printer, and interactive base, so the same product can replace workbooks, printed drills, lookup apps, and part of the function of a study desk by organizing how a student sits down, scans work, gets corrections, and prints the next worksheet.

  • The core workflow is broader than answer lookup. The Xiaoyuan AI Learning Machine scans homework, explains mistakes step by step, generates targeted follow up exercises, and prints new sheets. That makes it a daily study management tool, not just a digital tutor.
  • This also changes the competitive set. Yuanfudao is no longer just fighting tutoring apps. It is competing for household spend that might otherwise go to paper practice books, dictionaries, correction pens, printers, and dedicated children’s study furniture that structures after school study time.
  • Rivals are moving in the same direction, but from different price points. Zuoyebang sells a cheaper AI learning machine for mid market families, while TAL is pushing the ThinkPal tablet into overseas markets. That suggests the category is becoming a hardware shelf battle as much as a software battle.

The next step is a more bundled study environment, where device, content, subscriptions, and even physical retail all reinforce each other. If Yuanfudao keeps winning that bundle, it can capture more of the family education budget and become harder to displace than a standalone tutoring app.
