Oura's 2024 Retail Breakthrough
Oura
The real story is that Oura stopped being a niche DTC gadget company in 2024 and became a scaled retail wearable brand. Selling 1.3M rings in 2024 meant roughly one quarter of all rings ever sold were moved in a single year, and company disclosures later said more than 2.5M rings were sold from June 2024 to late 2025, showing that Target, Amazon, Best Buy, and a new Ring 4 launch turned distribution into a growth engine rather than a constraint.1 2 3 4 5
- Before the retail push, Oura mostly sold through its own site and specialty channels. Amazon went live in March 2024 and Target followed in April 2024, putting the ring in front of shoppers who were already browsing electronics and wellness products instead of asking them to discover Oura on its own website.2 3 4
- The product launch and the channel expansion hit at the same time. Oura Ring 4 launched in October 2024, and later filing language says ring sales are heavily shaped by new launches and holiday demand, which helps explain why second half 2024 accelerated so sharply.3 6 7
- This scale matters because Oura monetizes the installed base twice. The first sale is the ring, about $390M of hardware revenue in 2024, and the second is the $6 per month membership, which reached about 2M paying subscribers and roughly $110M of subscription revenue that same year.1 5
Going forward, distribution scale makes Oura look less like a one hit device maker and more like the category leader in a new consumer health platform. The next step is to use every new retail sale to feed memberships, upgrades, and adjacent health programs, which is how ring growth turns into a much larger recurring revenue business.1 5 8
