Bedrock matters because it is not just another autonomy startup, it is the first new U.S. excavator retrofit company showing both serious contractor adoption and serious capital at the same time. Its pitch is simple for large civil fleets, keep the existing machine, install an autonomy kit in one shift, and use Waymo-style software and safety processes to automate repetitive mass excavation work on live infrastructure sites.

  • Built Robotics is the main historical benchmark, but its traction is concentrated in solar piling and trenching. Built says its Exosystem is an aftermarket excavator upgrade, Everest is the cloud layer, and its systems have logged over 20,000 autonomous hours. That is strong proof of ROI in a narrow workflow, not yet broad civil site penetration.
  • Bedrock looks more directly aligned with Gravis because it is targeting general earthmoving on contractor owned fleets. Bedrock says its system works on 20 to 80 ton excavators, has partner deployments with Sundt, Zachry, and Austin Bridge & Road, and completed a supervised autonomy mass excavation job moving more than 70,000 cubic yards on a 130 acre site.
  • Teleo competes from a different angle. Its system adds remote operation, a command center, and supervised autonomy so one operator can oversee multiple machines. That makes it easier to sell into labor shortage and safety budgets, especially when a contractor needs more staffed machine hours faster than it needs a fully autonomous dig cycle.

The next phase of competition will turn on who becomes the default retrofit layer for big contractors. Built owns the clearest single use case, Teleo owns the clearest operator shortage story, and Bedrock is pushing hardest to own broad civil excavation. That is why Bedrock is the rival most likely to meet Gravis head on in mainstream infrastructure work.
