MSP Bundles Threaten Huntress

Diving deeper into

Huntress

Company Report
If large partners switch to managed detection and response bundled with their management software, Huntress could lose many clients at once without a direct relationship to defend.

This risk is really about channel control, not just product competition. Huntress sells through MSPs that own billing, deployment, and the day to day client relationship, so when an MSP standardizes on a bundled stack from Kaseya, ConnectWise, or N-able, the switch can happen portfolio wide. That makes Huntress vulnerable to a single partner decision replacing many endpoint seats at once, even if end customers never asked for a change.1 2 3 4 5 6

  • The bundle threat is concrete because MSP software vendors are moving MDR into the core package. Kaseya 365 Endpoint Pro includes MDR inside the broader endpoint management and backup suite, and N-able markets Adlumin MDR as part of its IT management and security platform. That changes the buyer question from which MDR is best to whether a separate MDR line item is needed at all.2 3 5 6
  • The pressure is strongest in the MSP channel because the same console already runs patching, remote management, backup, and ticketing. If detection and response appears in that same workflow, an MSP can reduce vendor count, train staff on one system, and simplify invoicing across hundreds of small business clients.2 3 4 5
  • Huntress has a defense, but it is indirect. Huntress positions itself as the expert layer on top of Microsoft, with integrations into Microsoft 365 and Defender plus a 24/7 SOC. That helps justify a separate purchase on detection quality and remediation, but it does not remove the fact that the MSP, not Huntress, usually controls the end customer relationship.1 4 7 8

Going forward, the MSP security market is likely to split between bundled default protection and specialist overlays. Huntress’s path is to become the add on MSPs keep even when the management vendor offers its own MDR, by proving better detections, cleaner remediation, and tighter Microsoft coverage than an all in one bundle can match.1 2 3 4 7 8
