Robinhood turned Kalshi from a standalone exchange into a distribution layer inside a mainstream brokerage. That matters because Kalshi does not need to win every customer one by one if Robinhood can place event contracts in front of millions of retail traders inside the same app they already use for stocks and options. The volume share shows that consumer access, not just exchange technology, is what scales a prediction market fastest.1 2 3 4

  • Kalshi’s core edge is regulatory plumbing. It spent about two years getting CFTC approval, built KYC, AML, reporting, and surveillance systems, and can offer event contracts in all 50 states. Robinhood plugged into that regulated stack instead of building it first, which let it launch faster and test demand before owning the rails.2 5 6
  • The partnership also explains why Robinhood is now moving to own infrastructure. Robinhood said prediction markets became its fastest growing product line by revenue, with more than 11B contracts traded by over 1M customers in 2025, then formed a joint venture with Susquehanna and closed the MIAXdx acquisition on January 20, 2026 to control exchange and clearing licenses directly.3 4 7
  • For Polymarket, this raises the bar for U.S. distribution. Polymarket has lower fees and global crypto liquidity, but Kalshi plus Robinhood showed that the winning U.S. play can be regulated market access bundled into an existing brokerage app. That is why broker integrations and licensed venues matter as much as raw liquidity now.1 6 8

The next phase is prediction markets separating into infrastructure and storefronts. Brokerages will increasingly own the customer, while exchanges compete to supply licenses, liquidity, and contract inventory behind the scenes. That shift favors platforms that can combine federal approvals with retail distribution, and it pushes Polymarket, Kalshi, and Robinhood toward direct competition on who controls the on ramp.1 4 7 8
