Embedding Layer 7 into StealthStation
Precision Neuroscience
The Medtronic deal matters because it shifts Layer 7 from a device a surgeon must add, into a device that can sit inside the screen and workflow they already use in cranial cases. StealthStation is already used to plan trajectories, track instruments, and line up anatomy during tumor resection, biopsy, and DBS. If Layer 7 signals appear inside that same navigation environment, brain mapping becomes easier to order, easier to learn, and easier for hospitals to buy as part of an existing capital stack.

Today, neurosurgeons often piece together anatomy from navigation and function from separate mapping tools. The January 12, 2026 partnership is aimed at combining Precision’s cortical recordings with Medtronic’s real time 3D navigation, so the surgeon can see where the array sits and what cortex is doing without jumping across disconnected systems.
-
This fits the actual early use case. Layer 7-T has FDA 510(k) clearance for temporary, less than 30 day surface recording, monitoring, and stimulation. The cleared indications line up with the same tumor and epilepsy mapping workflows long served by subdural grid electrodes and intraoperative neurophysiology billing, which means Precision is entering an established procedural lane rather than inventing a new one.
-
Precision’s commercial upside is not just one array per case. The company has shown a 1,024 electrode array and has reported use of four tiled arrays, or 4,096 electrodes total. That creates a path from focal mapping to wider cortical coverage, and it turns each procedure into a consumables sale that can scale with how much brain surface the surgeon wants to visualize.
The next step is for functional mapping to look less like a special research add on, and more like a standard software guided step inside cranial surgery. If that happens, Precision can use routine tumor and epilepsy cases to build surgeon habits, hospital purchasing relationships, and clinical data, then carry that installed base forward into permanent therapeutic BCI systems.
