This shifts Whoop from selling a fitness subscription one customer at a time to entering care pathways where Medicare pays for ongoing chronic disease management. Instead of buying Facebook ads to find athletes, Whoop can be prescribed or directly enrolled through WHOOP Physician Services under ACCESS, with device use tied to hypertension, obesity, prediabetes, and other chronic conditions that already drive recurring clinical follow up.1 2 3 4

  • The key change is who pays and who brings the user in. ACCESS gives participating organizations recurring outcome linked payments for managing qualifying Medicare patients, and CMS allows participants to furnish devices when connected to care delivery. That lets Whoop treat the band as a care tool, not just a consumer gadget.2 3 4
  • The addressable pool is large even before expansion. CMS says ACCESS targets conditions affecting more than three out of four people with Medicare, and the eCKM track alone covers hypertension, dyslipidemia, obesity, and prediabetes. CKD by itself affects an estimated 37 million US adults, which shows how quickly a clinical wedge can open beyond athletes.2 3 5
  • This is also a competitive move against other wearables. Whoop already gets roughly 85% of revenue from subscriptions and bundles hardware into membership, which fits reimbursed remote care better than a one time device sale. Oura is moving toward medical features too, but ACCESS gives Whoop a direct clinical distribution path into Original Medicare starting July 5, 2026.1 2 4 6

If this works, Whoop becomes less like a premium fitness brand and more like infrastructure for reimbursed longitudinal monitoring. The next step is expanding from early cardio kidney metabolic conditions into broader chronic care tracks, which would let clinical reimbursement sit beside consumer subscriptions and enterprise wellness as a third growth engine.1 2 3 4
