EquipmentShare OWN program monetizes ownership
EquipmentShare
This shift turned EquipmentShare from a broker with limited inventory into the operator that controls the machines, the maintenance shop, and the contractor workflow. Owning fleet gave it guaranteed supply and rental margin. The OWN program let it sell a machine, keep it connected to T3, store it, service it, and rent it back out when idle. That pulls revenue from three places at once, rental, service, and software, instead of taking only a marketplace fee.1 2 3 4 5
- The hybrid model is visible in reported revenue lines. EquipmentShare disclosed equipment rental and related services revenue, equipment sales, parts and service revenue, and T3 telematics revenue tied to OWN program equipment. In 2025 it reported $346M of equipment sales revenue and $4M of T3 telematics services revenue under OWN, showing the model is built into the P&L, not just a sales pitch.4 5
- OWN solves the contractor problem that a pure marketplace could not. A contractor can buy a machine through EquipmentShare, let EquipmentShare handle storage and maintenance for a fixed fee, and have that machine placed into EquipmentShare’s rental fleet when not needed. That makes owning equipment less like parking cash in an idle asset and more like holding an earning asset.6 7
- This also explains why EquipmentShare looks different from United Rentals. United Rentals is much larger, with $14.3B of 2023 revenue and most of it coming from equipment rentals and used equipment sales. EquipmentShare is using software and managed ownership to wedge into that market, rather than trying to win only on branch density and fleet scale.1 2 8
The next step is a bigger mix of contractor spend flowing through T3 and OWN. If more customers let EquipmentShare manage both rented and owned machines, the company can keep adding high frequency service and software revenue on top of the heavy capital rental base, which makes it look less like a local rental yard and more like the operating system for construction fleets.1 2 3 6 7
