Doubao Work enables remote desktop workflows
ByteDance
ByteDance is turning Doubao from a chatbot into a work operating layer, which matters because office agents win when they can actually click through software and finish jobs, not just answer questions. Doubao Work pushes into that layer with remote computer control, a Windows virtual desktop, cloud computer access, and a marketplace style model of skills, plugins, and APIs that let the agent move from chat into real office workflows.1 2 3 4
- Tencent set the competitive template first. WorkBuddy is positioned as an AI workspace for document work, coding, and design, and Tencent says it ties into Docs, knowledge tools, chat, email, and meetings. That makes the battle less about model quality alone, and more about who owns the employee’s daily tool stack.5 6 7
- Doubao Work is built to close the last mile. The product description points to remote desktop control, cloud computers, and 200 plus skills and connectors. In practice, that means the agent can open files, use software in a hosted Windows environment, and trigger connected tools instead of handing the user a draft and stopping there.1 2 3
- ByteDance also has a distribution advantage from the broader Doubao system. The company page describes Doubao as China’s most used AI chatbot app, and the same page says Seed2.1 models now power both Doubao and Trae for multi step office and coding work. That gives ByteDance one shared model stack across consumer chat, developer tools, and workplace agents.1
The next step is a shift from AI as a separate app to AI as the control surface for office software. If ByteDance keeps wiring Doubao into hosted desktops, connectors, and developer tools, it can turn consumer scale into enterprise workflow share, and meet Tencent on the ground where sticky productivity products are built, inside files, chats, and repeated daily tasks.2 4 5 7
