Generic spend tools can manage approvals after a purchase is requested, but they usually do not see the care workflow that creates the need in the first place.

Nitra already presents itself inside the AdvancedMD marketplace as both a procurement marketplace and card platform, with medical specific rewards, bill pay, accounting integrations, and multi location spend controls. That shows the integration is not just data sync, it is part of how Nitra is distributed into clinic operations.

Horizontal tools are moving deeper into procurement. BILL now bundles purchase requests, POs, approvals, matching, AP, and forecasting in one platform, and Ramp offers procurement workflows like requests, approval chains, vendor onboarding, and three way matching. The gap is not whether they can build procurement, it is whether they can anchor it in clinical system data.

This matters economically because Nitra makes most of its money from payment volume, with software often waived to win the primary card relationship. If clinical context helps Nitra predict demand and route more orders through its marketplace and card, it can capture more interchange, vendor rebates, and tighter workflow lock in than a generic AP tool.
The next step is for healthcare finance software to become procurement software that starts upstream, before a staff member places an order. As Nitra expands its AI procurement agents and front office integrations, the company is positioning to own the full loop from appointment schedule to supply purchase to payment, which would make the product much harder to replace than a card and expense bundle alone.
