DataRobot as Agent Control Plane

DataRobot

Company Report
The Agent Workforce Platform targets use cases as a control plane for managing fleets of AI agents, similar to how Salesforce functions as the system of record for customer relationships.

DataRobot is trying to move from a tool engineers use to ship one model into the operating layer a company uses to run dozens or hundreds of AI workers at once. In practice that means one place to launch agents, track token spend, see failures, compare outputs, enforce approval rules, and decide which models and tools each agent can use. That is a much broader budget than classic MLOps, because it touches business workflows, security, and cloud spend together.1 2 3 4

  • The Salesforce analogy fits because the value is not the agent itself, it is the shared record around the agent. Salesforce stores the history of leads, deals, and customer actions. DataRobot is aiming to store the history of agent runs, costs, permissions, evaluations, and handoffs, so enterprises can manage AI work with the same discipline they use for human work.1 3 4
  • This also changes who buys the product. Older DataRobot sold mainly to ML teams building and monitoring models. Agent Workforce Platform features like CrewAI, LangGraph, and LlamaIndex templates, delegated access, autoscaling, guardrails, and observability make the buyer broader, including app teams, platform teams, security, and operations groups that need production controls more than data science tooling.1 2 4 5
  • The commercial logic is expansion inside existing customers. DataRobot was estimated at $225M of revenue in 2023 after years built around enterprise ML operations. A control plane for multi agent apps gives it a way to attach new usage and governance spend on top of that base, similar to how adjacent vendors like Dataiku have moved from model building toward broader AI application creation for non technical teams.5 6 7

The next step is a fight to become the default operating system for enterprise agents before cloud platforms absorb the category. If companies really move from pilot projects to 100 plus agents, the winners will be the vendors that own policy, visibility, and deployment across mixed frameworks and mixed infrastructure, not just the model builder or chatbot surface.1 2 4 8
